Halloween Costumes, Before and After Care…
Posted in: by Alia-C on October 15, 2008
Halloween celebration is a fun holiday where adults and children get to live out their fantasies. Children love it because they get all the candy they can eat just for dressing up and being adorable. Adults love it because it is a time for parties and getting together with friends in a fantasy where you can be anyone or anything you want. Like most people, you are likely to go through different costumes over the years, so there will be times when your favorites are worth saving. Maybe you won’t use the entire Halloween costumes as before, but some parts and pieces are going to come in handy for another day. So don’t just throw your Halloween costumes into the closet carelessly when Halloween is over; make sure to take some care so it is clean and fresh when you use it again.
If you think about it, even though you are only wearing your Halloween costumes for a short time, it is still likely to collect things from your body and your environment. You may sweat, but you may not think you sweat all that much still, leaving body castoffs in the costume will degrade the fabric over time and is likely to make it musty. You are also going to have a smoky smell to your Halloween costumes if you have been to a party where anyone was smoking, tobacco smells and incense cling to cloth. So even though you may think your costumes smell okay, they are not going to be doing so well in a year next time when you pull them out. Here are a few tips that can help:
2) Generally, there are adornments on Halloween costumes that are going to be damaged or come off in the wash; when you use a dry cleaning service, they will take care of those for you to avoid damaging anything.
3) Also, find a good acid-free garment bag for storing your Halloween costumes. This measure will avoid that closet smell that we all know too well. Just hanging it and forgetting about it will cause you to have to have it cleaned all over again when you get it out the next time.
4) And finally, keep your accessories for your Halloween costumes together in a clearly marked box so that they are available again for Halloween or other costume-appropriate occasion.
Even if you never want to wear your Halloween costumes again, you may have kids or neighbors who want to play dress up, or a buddy who needs something in a pinch the next year. So take some extra care you may find that it pays off big!
